There were games such as World of Warcraft or Guild Wars that allowed you to chat and explore with other players from all over the world, and all you required was an internet connection to do it. My favorite fantastical drug of choice was RS Gold it was a game that had me and my brother teaming up to slay the Corporeal Beast and to learn how the art of cooking a delicious monkfish and play a few games of Gnome Ball.
These days of coming back from school and jumping on the shared computer as well as later on our own computer but leaving our bedroom doors wide open to shouting strategies and plead for gold, were one of the best experiences I was fortunate enough to experience growing up.
I've sporadically kept up with RuneScape over the years , to check that my account from 2005 remained intact. It wasn't until two months ago, when I got a text message from a good friend of mine from the *Gamer Squad*. The text simply stated, "I want to play runescape," that I decided to embark on my path to Gielinor.
Like any good MMO In RuneScape, the aim of RuneScape differs depending on the player. Maybe you want to complete all of the more than 200 quests in order to earn Legendary Hero status. Maybe you'd like to master any of the 27 skills required for the famous Skill Mastery cape. Perhaps you'd like to make billions of flipping items at Grand Exchanges.
You can be an asshole , and then go on to kill gamers in the wilderness as well. It's not even talking about the mini-games or world events, duels, and holidays. The game is massive. And it's clear Jagex hasn't stopped making improvements to Gielinor. There's a myriad of new games, with the most recent being RuneScape Mobile, which launches on the 17th of June.
It was exhilarating to go back to the RuneScape Grand Exchange and see people wearing armor and wielding swords which looked like they could use god-killing power to smash my shiny dragon's armour, as well as an the abyssal whip (that'd be impressive if you played it back in my days and teen years).
Even the menus were different as it turns out the nice people at Jagex set up a lot of help for players from the past, including a legacy menu mode with OSRS Fire Cape Buy. In another nod towards old gamer, I ecstatic to find out that when I went to Lumbridge and spoke to Hans, an iconic NPC from the start, I could be rewarded with five, tenor an 15-year-old veteran's cape. The cape that has 15 years of service is something worth seeing; it's got fire burning the bottom.
